A United Consensus on Advertising Balloons

In the UK, everyone has reached a consensus on the fact that advertising balloons work. It works so well that most of the biggest brands in the UK use equally big advertising balloons to market their brand and keep their presence at the top of mind of their consumers. Use an advertising balloon to make sure that your ad will not and cannot be ignored.

Grab the attention of consumers from the street as they walk or drive past as your advertising balloon floats by. Also, using an advertising balloon during an event, with your brand floating in the sky as a picturesque background makes a dramatic effect with equally dramatic results. Knowing that an advertising balloon will work wonders for your brand is only half the work. You should be able to figure out what you want your advertising balloon to look like.

What shape and colors should it have are things that you need to think about. You should also consider where you will be having your advertising balloon floating to catch the most attention and whether you want your advertising balloon lit or not are options that you will have to decide upon.

When you have gotten these details down pat, the last step before sailing your sales along with your advertising balloons is which advertising balloon supplier in the UK should you consider to make your investment on.

Classic Hot Air Balloons

Don’t’ let their company name fool you. The only thing classic about this company is the fact that they are the typical choice by big brands that use advertising balloons to market their brands, products and services. Contrary to their company name, this company makes use of innovative shapes other than the usual inverted teardrop hot air balloon shape. Don’t worry though-if you want the classic styles, shapes and colors, they have those too.

What’s good about Classic Hot Air Balloons though is that you can either rent or create your own advertising balloon. Go ahead and check them out www.ballooning.fsnet.co.uk and see the beer shaped advertising balloon that one of their clients contracted them to make.

Exclusive Ballooning

For corporate marketing efforts using advertising balloons, Exclusive Ballooning is recommended. They have experience in servicing corporate clients whether for institutional brand marketing or for public relations and they are professional enough to have the statistics to back up their claims of success. Check them out at www.exclusiveballooning.co.uk

Tips When Buying Advertising Space In Print

When you first start out you’re bound to be keen to market your business as much as possible for free. But sooner or later you’ll probably succumb to some form of paid advertising, maybe even in print.

I’ve recently been researching advertising space in magazines for a new business, and it’s a bit like entering the lion’s den. It’s easy to understand why so many rooky business people get eaten alive!

I got stung when I started out a few years ago. I bought an advert in a graduate magazine, paid a lot of money, and it did nothing for me. Zilch. Nada. Why? I bought a display advert, not classified.

Here’s the bottom line, if you’re a small home business NEVER buy display advertising in a magazine (those big, colourful adverts spread amongst the editorial).

Only ever invest in classified ads (smaller, and at the back) that have a clear call to action. Classified adverts cost a LOT less than display adverts, and have a significantly higher return on investment for a small business.

Talking of investment, never pay the full price for your advert. Automatically expect a 20% discount, minimum. Start small (the smallest ad size is usually 3 x 1) and increase the size of your advert in line with it’s success.

Which reminds me, make sure you can measure the response to your adverts because this is the only way you’ll know if your investment was worth it, and therefore if it’s worth investing again.

Display advertising is the domain of large corporations with big budgets to build their brand. Don’t go there. It’s a numbers game. Enough people see your nice big advert in enough magazines and they’ll remember your business. You want people to do more than remember you, right?

So in summary, my top tips are:

    • 1. Classified adverts only.
    • 2. Haggle, haggle, haggle.
    • 3. Buy the smallest amount of space possible to begin with.
    • 4. Make sure you can test the response of your adverts.
    • 5. Include a strong call to action.

Newspaper Inserts - Distributing Your Flyers

Newspaper inserts are a cost-effective and guaranteed way to have your flyers delivered directly into the homes of your potential customers. Advertising with full color flyers is a time-tested and proven method of marketing that can generate immediate sales and help your company with branding.

What is a newspaper insert?

A newspaper insert is simply a flyer that is distributed into homes or news stands via the newspaper. Once your flyer is placed into it becomes a “newspaper insert” which is also commonly referred to as a preprint, P&D, and/or Free Standing Insert (FSI).

Do you have an effective newspaper insert?

Before you even think about inserting your flyer into the newspaper you will want to make sure you have a great design. Here are a few things to consider when designing a newspaper insert for your small business.

  • Do you have attractive graphics and an overall high quality flyer?
  • Do you have a “call to action” such as a sale, promotion, or special event?
  • Have you included (easy to find) contact information?
  • Does your flyer stand out from the competition?
  • Do you have a way to track results such as a coupon or phone line?
  • Have you had a professional designer create or review your flyer?

You should answer yes to all of these questions before sending out your flyer.

What are the benefits of newspaper inserts?

  • More cost effective than direct mail, shared mail, radio, and television.
  • Guaranteed delivery into thousands of homes.
  • Targeted by zip code and demographics.
  • Generate instant responses and sales.
  • Time-tested method of marketing that yield great results.
  • Lends credibility to your business and build your brand.
  • Newspapers are a trusted source of information in your community.
  • Newspaper inserts typically remain in homes for 2-3 days after delivery
  • ….and the list could go on!

Don’t throw away your small business advertising dollars. They are a smart, safe, and cost-effective way to launch a successful advertising campaign within your community.

Web Design & SEO

When you are on the internet as often as I am, you come across a number of websites straight out of the mid nineties and some that you know someone just thought one day “I’m going to build my own site”. Now Obviously search engines do not look at the “prettiness” of websites otherwise the first page would be filled with fancy flash sites and cookie cutter sites.

The question is how important is web design for your SEO?

When you are building a website, or picking a designer for your website you should make sure that the designer keeps their code clean. What do I mean by this you ask? Well, take the time and look at the code, you want nice clean coding. Do not let them fill your site with font tags and a bunch of java script. This day and age a good webmaster should know that CSS will make your code neat and tidy for the search engines as they crawl through, as well you can often time link your java script from a separate file on your server. Most importantly, do not fill your code with spam. Use your “alt” tags wisely, do not describe the picture in the code use that in your visible text. Use only viable meta tags, there is a lot of them out there, but they have been devalued and could hurt you more than help you.

The next biggest mistake I find on websites is navigation, or the lack there of. You work really hard to get your site to the first page with great SEO techniques, then you have no one staying on your site because they are having trouble finding their way around your site. When you think of SEO, you think of getting top page results, but they do not call it internet marketing for nothing (marketing being the operative word). Remember you are trying to provide the best product and the best price, but if they can’t find their way to that product, all is lost. The importance of navigation as far as SEO goes, is text links. Do not hide your navigation in java, flash or CSS only, be sure you have some text links on your page. I generally add any text links near the bottom of the page especially if you have a top navigation, it allows your visitors a place to go once they reach the bottom.

Last but never least is consistency. Your web page should have a common theme throughout. You want your visitors to recognize your site the whole way through. Websites are not homes, do not decorate differently on each page. You do not want your visitor thinking they have left your site and then moving on to a competitors site. Another good rule of thumb is when you are adding external links on your site, use the target tag. This allows for the external link to opened in a different window and tab which makes it easier for the potential client to wander back in your direction and hopefully purchase that product or service that you are offering.

Clean, easy to navigate sites will draw in more potential revenue, help you on the search engines with top page results and could even get advertisers to want to be on your site. SEO always starts with design, think ahead and you will save valuable time and money!

The Buzz

I am a relative newbie to the sport of building websites. It is very much like golf to me, both exhilarating and frustrating at the same time. I am sure that it is the same to many of you. Part of my excitement is that of new discoveries, and this sport is a never ending source of twists and turns, that can keep the wayward sportsman occupied for days on end. Unlike most sports, in this one, the rules are constantly changing, and that, in itself, is enough to keep the mind occupied.

Some of this will just be so much drivel to those of you advanced in the sport, who know all the techniques, and have mastered them. Some of it would seem astonishing to someone who had never practiced the art. The one thing, that I think really drives my interest, is the very real practice, and possibility of thinking “outside the box”, and the fact that it is entirely possible for a neophyte, to score, because of the fact that he or she, is not embedded in the system. Sometimes we all get so close to our situation, to notice the obvious, and a new pair of eyes may be just the thing to shake things up. While everyone else, is speaking the same language, following the same training patterns, reading from the same rule book, a new person can come along, question everything, and lead the whole pack. I will probably never be one of those people, but it is something to think about.

I have seen many different methods of getting people to a web site. The first, and most obvious I suppose, is:

1. Optimize the meta information, and key words. I have spent a great deal of time doing this, and have had mixed results. When I go to Alexa, and check my seo by their method on some of my sites, I have a score of 95% or better, with 100% keyword relevance.

2. Advertising, which can be both on the Internet, and in the older forms of media. One of the popular ways it is done in my area, is to put up small yard signs with a pithy little saying, and the URL in bright letters, newspapers, magazines, TV, and radio are other means. On the Internet, there is direct advertising through email, which is the tech version of mail out fliers, advertising on other sites, and links. Buying links, looks very much like advertising to me, and the links are often used as an artificial means of increasing page rank, because of the way that some top search engines use to rank pages. Google is now moving to change this.

3. Buzz. Buzz is sort of, the unknown, or variable in the equation. An event that is capitalized on by a webmaster, or something of that nature. It can be naturally occurring, or the result of a well thought out plan. Boring, non creative neophytes such as me, can create a little, by writing on subjects of our expertise, and publishing this material in blogs and ezines. So far, this seems to be my best method.

When I write a story on pruning a tree, or lawncare, or pest control, or my experiences as a neophyte, Internet outsider, those pieces of my brain, are picked up by others who are trying to provide information to their customers, and they in turn make money from the adds placed on their sites, and my URL gets noticed a bit. Then people come to my site. I have noticed a lot of my stuff, when I search my keywords these days. For me, maxing out my meta and keywords, and advertising, are way back on the list, and my traffic is on a steady rise.

Have you ever checked the seo score and keyword relevance of Google, Yahoo, or any other major search engine? Try it. You will find it to be pretty low. What drives traffic to them, is the service they provide, and the buzz!

6 Things You Can Do Today To Improve Your SEO

Have you Worked on your SEO Lately?

1) Take 30 minutes each day and find sites with a PR (page ranking) of 3 or higher and swap links.

How do you know a sites PR? Download the Goggle toolbar-it will tell you the pr of every site you land on.

2) Try to get plenty of 1 way links from sites with a PR of 3 or more.

How do you do that? Go to Alexa and type in some of your competitors sites-competitors that have been in business a while-and see who is linking to them. Most likely you will find that a lot of directories are linking to them-that is a one way link. There are 2 types of directories-paid and free. Yahoo offers an excellent directory but you have to pay for it-but it is worth it in the long run for improving your SEO. There are plenty of free directories as well such as DMOZ. Keep in mind that Dmoz is often considered one of the most important directories to submit too and if you haven’t submitted your site there yet-DO IT NOW!

3) Write at least 1 400 word article per week and submit to a free article submission service.

Why do this? Because articles offer EXCELLENT one way links back to your site. Also, post the article to your website and to your bog. Article services such as Ezine usually have very high PRs-and if your article is posted there you now have a free one way link to your site.

4) Start Blogging!

And I don’t mean on your blog. Lets say you have a fashion oriented site-go out there an find blogs that revolve around fashion and post a statement or two and sign you name and website address. If you go to Yahoo and put into the search bar Pure-Ecommerce one of the first searches is a blog we submitted and posted to.

There is also a service called payperpost. They do all of your blogging for you for a fee per post.

5) Check out your Competitors

This is a no brainer. Lets say your selling NursingWear. Go into Google and type in NursingWear. What sites rank number 1,2,and 3 in the organic listings (these are the listings you DON’T pay for) and study their sites. What are they doing, how much content do they have, take not of their product titles, their category titles, do they have deep links on their front page, etc. Next, go to Alexa.com and type in the company’s name. Click on the the link icon-what sites are linking to them. Get the idea?

6) Finally-RENT WORDTRACKER.com

This just makes me so mad. If you are going to own a web business you NEED to know what terms people search on to find you. Don’t assume-you need to do the research. This really should be done PRIOR to creating your website and loading your products but most of you are way beyond that-it is not too late though. If you haven’t done it rent www.wordtracker.com today for every site you own and understand what terms people type in to find you.

Six Great Ways to Pick an SEO Company that Will Get You a Great Listing on Google

It has been said that desperate times call for desperate measures, and that is the feeling that most website owners have after they’ve been experiencing the huge frustrations of trying to get their online businesses to be displayed in the top ranking pages of Yahoo! or Google. Your only option as a website owner who must have a good ranking or else go bankrupt, would be to hire a really great SEO company that specializes in getting a small business like yours a really great ranking at all costs. Here are six ways to make sure you are picking the right company to put you in the league with the big boys of the internet world:

1. IMPLEMENT A GOOD BACKGROUND CHECK ON YOUR POTENTIAL SEO COMPANY This step includes typing the company name in Yahoo! or Google and seeing what kind of negative feedback comes back on the SEO business that you are interested in. I would say that if there are more than six credible instances of irate customers who used this SEO company and were not at all satisfied with the service they provided, definitely start looking elsewhere.

Just make sure you are looking in the right places to get this credible info, because it could be misinformation put out there by the SEO company’s main competitors. If you can make a contact with a previous customer, by all means do this first. A first hand testimonial from someone with a similar online business like yours who had a good experience with the SEO company is the best research tool of all.

2. MAKE SURE THEIR OWN SITE IS VERY HIGH IN GOOGLE’S RANKING PAGE If an SEO company cannot get their own business ranked at least in the top ten on Yahoo! or Google, they won’t have a shot at helping you get even a decent rating in one of the biggest search engines. Any really competent SEO company will be listed in the top five rankings under “SEO businesses”, so start with those five and work your way down your list and find a really good SEO company that fits your budget.

3. ASK FOR A LIST OF CREDIBLE REFERRALS Again, this is a great research tool you must use to figure out the respectability of any decent SEO company. If they refuse to give you at least three website addresses of businesses they have optimized web pages for, then you must cross them off your list. Even if the SEO company says that they cannot give you any names because of confidentiality agreements, do not take “no” for an answer. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever why former customers should be kept a secret from future clients.

4. NEVER USE AN SEO COMPANY THAT USES AUTOMATED SUBMISSIONS No credible SEO company would ever submit your web pages using an automated software. To get a great ranking at Google, for example, there are strict submission guidelines that Google insists on for every page submission. If you use any one of these automated submissions software, you could get a permanent ban from Google, something no business can recover from.

5. IF THEY SAY THEY CAN GET YOU A #1 RANKING AT GOOGLE, STAY AWAY FROM THEM You might think that this claim from an SEO company would be a good thing. Unfortunately, there is not one SEO company around today that would be able to make that claim with even the smallest amount of validity. Even when the keywords that the SEO company is optimizing falls into the category of “rarely used”, there is no way that any company can guarantee you a #1 rank. So when you hear that claim coming out of a customer service rep’s mouth, immediately back away from doing business with that SEO company.

6. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR If an SEO company you are looking into does not charge very much at all for search engine optimization, there must be a good reason for the low cost. Incompetence on the part of the low cost SEO business is generally the reason that a company cannot charge the same rates that a more professional SEO organization can for its superior service. You must be aware that paying a lower fee for search engine optimization will usually mean that you will get a far lower ranking than you would if you went to a far more expensive one.

So before you take out that business checkbook, make sure that you have followed these rules for deciding exactly who should run the very important search engine optimization techniques for your precious web business.

Rob Mead has written many articles about internet marketing and how to create and find great website content that will increase your web site’s traffic overnight. Search Engine Optimization Basics

Search Engine Optimization is the process of increasing traffic to a website by increasing the ranking and position of that website. It is not about who has the prettiest site with the most bells and whistles.

Sometimes the most gorgeous websites can have terrible rankings because they are not optimized properly, while a site that is basically simple and even horrible in appearance gets really high ratings. What is the principal difference?

There are some simple rules of thumb that you can use to optimize your website and all you need are a few simple web design skills. Whether redesigning a site or creating one from scratch, these rules should apply.

Never use frames when creating a website. If your site uses frames, you may want to think about changing to tables. If you are going to change your site, make certain your HTML is clean and free of unnecessary code.

Each page should include two to three paragraphs of keyword rich body text. For example, if you sell tanning products at your “The Tanning Place” website and the name of your closest competitor is “Up Town Tan,” you will want to write a paragraph that goes something like this: Are you looking for an up town tan? Then come to the Tanning Place for that gorgeous up town tan. We feature only the best tanning products from the best sources to give you a beautiful up town tan. Not only are you promoting your own website, if someone enters the term “up town tan” into the search box, then your site will appear along with “Up Town Tan,” and you can possibly convince someone who was looking for “Up Town Tan” to come to your site, instead.

The paragraph may seem a little repetitious and simplistic, but your goal is to attract web crawlers and not literary agents. Your high school English teacher will not praise your efforts, unless she has switch to SEO as her career.

Do not duplicate content on each page or even from site to site, if you own more than one site. Make certain each one is differentiated as far as content. It is better to have fewer pages with no duplicated text.

Use internal text links instead of images with links. Web crawlers will not find the link if it is buried behind an image. When you use images, make sure you include alt tags on all of them. This gives you an opportunity to tell the search engines what your site is all about, once again.

Splash pages may look impressive for visitors, but they do little to increase your rankings. Keep your graphics to a minimum because text is what improves your page ranking.

Do not try to attract or fool web crawlers by hiding text, such as making it the same color as the background. It may take a little time, but you will be caught and penalized for this and other black hat practices. I mention again, you are not being graded on your literary ability so do not be afraid to write a couple of keyword rich paragraphs.

Ethical SEO

What is ethical SEO (search engine optimisation)? Well the search engine optimisation industry is no different from most other industries, in that there are certain companies that follow unethical approaches to obtain high rankings in search engines, this technique is commonly referred to as black hat SEO.

Ethical SEO companies are companies that follow the search engines own guidelines for achieving better results and don’t try to fool the engines into giving them better ranking which invariably they find out about and penalise your website. Once your website has been penalised it can be very difficult to rectify, so this is why you should always be careful which SEO company you hire. Here are some things to bear in mind when hiring a SEO company.

Keyword selection.

Some SEO firms will guarantee you first place positions in search engines, be wary of this as no company can guarantee you first place positions. This usually means that the company will select you keyphrases and give you no say in the selection process. These will probably be poor keyphrases and won’t help your business in achieving higher visibility or profitability.

Pagerank.

Ignore companies that focus on increasing your Pagerank, contrary to popular believes Pagerank is of little importance to you and your business. Good Pagerank is a by product of good SEO. Too many people get a fixation on Pagerank for the wrong reasons. A high Pagerank doesn’t necessary mean good visibility in the SERPS (search engine result pages).

Partnerships with search engines.

One common claim made from unethical SEO’rs is that they claim to have a special relationship with search engines. The only people that know the search engines secrets are the search engines themselves and they don’t share them with anyone. So if a company claims this, it’s time to look elsewhere for your SEO requirements.

If you are looking for an ethical SEO company I always found this company to be very good and will only use white hat SEO techniques.

This may all sound a bit worrying but there are far more ethical companies out there than unethical ones. Just a few bad apples can spoil it for the companies out there that are genuinely highly professional at what they do. Just remember to do some research before hiring a company. Ask them for examples of work they have done, contact some of their clients directly and ask if they are happy with the work that has been done, at the end of the day ethical SEO companies don’t have anything to hide and will gladly show you what they do and how they do it.
